Repair PST File
If you are having problems opening a PST file (Personal Folder File), it means that this file might be corrupted. You can try repairing it using “Inbox Repair Tool”, which is a free tool provided by Microsoft. However, this tool does not always succeed in repairing PST files. It works by repairing the PST file’s header and then deleting anything in the file that it doesn’t understand.
Before using this tool to repair a PST file, you should always make a copy of that file, as this tool might destroy the whole file completely.
To use the Inbox Repair Tool, follow the following steps:
- Go to the Start menu and click on Run
- Type "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\Scanpst.exe" in the open box. (If the Scanpst.exe file does not exist in this location, use windows search to find it).
- Click OK
- Type the path and the file name of the PST file in the "Enter the name of the file you want to scan" box, or use the Brows button to locate this file.
- Click Start
- When the file scan is complete, select "Make a backup of scanned file before repairing" check box, then type the path and the name of the backup file.
- Click repair
If the file is successfully repaired, it will show you "Repair Complete" message.
